মোহাম্মদ আজিজ

Mohammed Aziz arrived in Britain in 1961, among the first documented Bangladeshi settlers in the north of England. He lived for twelve years in Bradford before moving to Oldham, making him a witness to the earliest phase of Bangladeshi settlement in two of the north's key cities. In Oldham, he became one of the community builders of the Westwood 'Bangla Para' settlement.

In his own words, recorded by the Bangla Stories oral history project: "Earlier, there were 700 Bengalis in Oldham; now there are 15,000. So we decided to build a mosque in each area. Inshalla we now have 10 mosques in Oldham."
