ফাতিমা নেহার বেগম

Fatima Nehar Begum is described by the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah RACE Centre as one of the first Bangladeshi women to live in Manchester. She is the mother of Ahmed Iqbal Ullah, a 13-year-old boy murdered in a racist attack at Burnage High School on 17 September 1986, a killing that shook the city and catalysed the founding of the Manchester Bangladeshi Women's Organisation (later renamed Ananna) in 1989.

In the years after her son's murder, she led a fundraising campaign that built the Ahmed Iqbal Memorial School in her home village in Sylhet, which opened in 1996 and had enrolled approximately 1,000 pupils by 2016. Her daughter Selina Ullah is a trustee of the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah RACE Centre and Education Trust.
