Humayun Islam BEM founded Bangla Bantams in 2015 in partnership with Bradford City AFC, creating the country's leading British‑Bangladeshi football supporters' group. The name combined Bradford City's nickname, The Bantams, with the community's Bengali identity, and the initiative was designed to bring Bangladeshi families, particularly young people and women, to Valley Parade to see themselves reflected in the club and its culture. Islam received a British Empire Medal (BEM) for his services to community cohesion through sport.

Bangla Bantams has become a model studied by other football clubs seeking to engage with British Asian communities, and was featured in Bradford's UK City of Culture 2025 programme.
