Shaftesbury is a reminder that British Bangladeshi settlement in southern England was not only urban. Small market towns could sustain Bangladeshi-owned curry houses if they sat on the right roads and served a steady clientele, and Shaftesbury's hilltop location on the Wiltshire-Dorset border proved viable for the community.
