Biography
Taiyabur Rahman Chowdhury MBE was born on 16 August 1943 in Rajapur, Derai, Sunamganj, Sylhet, the third of six children. He attended MC College, Sylhet, before emigrating to the United Kingdom in 1963. He settled in Bradford, graduated from the University of Bradford with a degree in social care, and built a career with Bradford Adoption and Fostering Services, where he is recorded as having helped more than 50 couples with adoption. He was a founding member and trustee of the Tawakkulia Jamia Masjid at 40 Cornwall Road, Manningham, Bradford's first mosque established by and for the Bengali community, founded in 1969, and served as President of the Bangladesh Peoples Association. He was awarded the MBE in the 2016 Queen's Birthday Honours for services to children and families (gazetted 11 June 2016). He died on 17 November 2016 and is regarded as the best-documented first-generation Bangladeshi community builder in Bradford.
